COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD RECRUITING TIPS

One thing is for sure, track and field is not a boring sport to watch. Considering how much variety you’ll see at a game. This sport brings in athletes who have skills in running, jumping, and throwing. There’s plenty of athletes out there looking for schools as well, this has created a competitive college track and field recruiting scene. So in order to succeed and find the right school, you’ll have to go in prepared. What we’ll be doing in this article is breaking down a few great tips that will help you make the college track and field recruiting process easier.

WORK ON YOUR GPA

The best option for a coach out dealing with college track and field recruiting, is a good GPA. It’s better to have a good GPA from the start of your high school career to the end. Some students however start off with a low GPA, once they realize their potential they start working on raising it. This is a great idea to help prove that you’re ready for college. Since the coaches are recruiting for a school, they’ll want to recruit someone who can handle the classes. Good grades is what will keep you on the track and field. So if track and field is something you love, keep this in mind when you start high school.

CONTACT COACHES AROUND THANKSGIVING

What happens around the time of thanksgiving is, athletes sometimes take time off. This means there's a lot of coaches reaching out to athletes with no response. So this opens a great chance for you to reach out and have them see your message. Coaches continue to look for possible students even throughout that time. Take advantage of this since college track and field recruiting is so competitive. It's the perfect opportunity to be noticed.

DO NOT SEND AN EMAIL TO MULTIPLE COACHES

When you’re reaching out to coaches from different schools, make sure they each get their own email. CC’ing multiple coaches in one email is a very bad idea. If they see an email you sent to them and only them it shows you’re very interested in that school. CC’ing many will give out a lazy impression. That’s the last thing they're looking for in a possible student to recruit. Make every email person to that coach and school. This will help you succeed with college track and field recruiting.

REQUEST FOR PAPERWORK

A lot of times the schools and coaches offer you things to convince you. This may include things like a scholarship. What has been known to happen is, they get offered a scholarship, they accept it and find out later on that they won't be getting it. So make them keep their word by asking for any promise on paper. This will help you make sure no one is lying to you during the college track and field recruiting process.
